PARENTAL GUIDE
We understand that sending your child away for a summer course to Oxford is an important decision, and it’s a responsibility we take very seriously. This guide provides additional information to address any concerns parents may have about the welfare of their children. We are also happy to discuss any specific questions regarding accommodation or other aspects of the program.
With years of experience running summer courses, we have seen young students start the program with initial nerves but leave with some of the most enriching and memorable experiences of their lives. Their time in Oxford, exploring its charming alleys and historic colleges, learning fascinating new topics, and connecting with peers from around the world, introduces them to a new sense of wonder and inspires them to pursue higher levels of knowledge and education. Students interact with some of Oxford’s brightest faculty and seize the rare opportunity to experience life at one of the world’s oldest centres of learning. No student has ever left our program unhappy with their decision to attend.
We prioritise the health and safety of our students, ensuring their experience is secure, enjoyable, and well-supported. Depending on the age group, students are accompanied at all times by experienced staff members and residential mentors (deans) during program activities. Deans also live on-site at the students’ accommodation halls, providing 24/7 supervision and support.
Our safety protocols align with the stringent standards set by UK regulations for educational programs, which include:
- Safeguarding & Child Protection: All staff members are trained in safeguarding practices, adhering to UK government regulations to maintain a safe and supportive environment for students of all ages.
- DBS Checks: We conduct thorough background checks, including Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) screenings, for all staff, mentors, and associated team members to ensure the highest standards of safety and well-being.
- Monitored & Secure Premises: The college facilities are equipped with monitored entry and exit points, CCTV surveillance, and fire and safety alarms to provide a secure environment.
- 24-Hour Hotline for Parents: A dedicated 24-hour hotline is available for parents to reach their children or program staff at any time.
- First Aid & Risk Management: First aid services are accessible at all times, and we perform comprehensive risk assessments for all activities, ensuring effective measures are in place to mitigate and minimise any risks.
We understand that sending your child to a different country for a summer program can be daunting. To ease this transition, we provide additional support for international students, including:
- Pre-Arrival Assistance: Detailed guidance on travel arrangements, visas, and what to expect upon arrival in the UK.
- Airport Transfers: Complimentary pick-up and drop-off services to and from Heathrow airport.
- Cultural Orientation: Sessions to help international students adjust to life in Oxford, including tips on local customs, safety, and exploring the city.
We value open communication with parents and ensure they are well-informed throughout the program. Parents receive:
- Regular Updates: Weekly emails with program highlights, student achievements, and photos.
- Dedicated Contact Points: Each cohort has a designated staff member who parents can reach out to directly for updates or concerns.
- End-of-Program Feedback: Parents are invited to share feedback and receive a summary report on their child’s progress and experiences during the program.
We prioritise not just the physical safety but also the mental and emotional well-being of our students. Our staff includes trained professionals who are equipped to offer:
- On-Site Counselling: Accessible support for students who may need someone to talk to during their stay.
- Residential Mentor Support: Mentors are always available for informal chats and guidance, providing a safe space for students to express their concerns or challenges.
Oxford is one of the safest towns in the UK, known for its high literacy rate, multicultural environment, and popularity as a tourist destination. The academic atmosphere and centuries-old tradition of learning give the town a serene and welcoming vibe. With students residing year-round, the college staff are friendly, approachable, and always ready to help.
We conduct thorough background checks on all staff, deans, and associated team members to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
